Flames' Hartley: 'No distractions' following Giordano signing
Calgary Flames coach Bob Hartley believes the team's mindset is where it should be in the wake of captain Mark Giordano signing a six-year contract extension worth a reported $40.5 million.
"Gio is a pillar for us, someone we can count on," the reigning Jack Adams Award winner told the Calgary Herald on Wednesday. "(General manager) Brad (Treliving) has done a great job. We’re going to get to camp and our captain, along (with) many of our veterans, are set contractually. There are no disagreements. No distractions. No confusion."
Giordano was set to begin playing the final season of his five-year, $20.1 million contract. The 31-year-old recorded career highs in both assists (37) and points (48) in 61 games in 2014-15 before a torn biceps tendon ended his campaign.
Left wing Micheal Ferland remains the lone Flame yet to come to terms on a contract extension. A restricted free agent, Ferland collected two goals and three assists in 26 games during his rookie season in 2014-15 before scoring three times and setting up two others in the playoffs.
