Baby steps: Gagner finding his way with Flyers

A special fan showed his appreciation after forward Sam Gagner scored his first goal with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Gagner's newborn son, Cooper, raised his fist in support after the Flyers recorded their second straight shutout victory with a 3-0 triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.

Playing in place of R.J. Umberger, Gagner opened the scoring as his wrist shot from the circle sailed past a screened Corey Crawford for a power-play tally 5:35 into the second period.

Acquired from the Arizona Coyotes shortly after the 2015 draft, Gagner had been a healthy scratch in Philadelphia's first two games - both losses. The 26-year-old Ontario native vented his frustration earlier in the week before notching an assist in his Flyers' debut as the team posted a 1-0 win over the Florida Panthers on Monday.

The sixth overall pick of the 2007 draft, Gagner played in parts of seven seasons with the struggling Edmonton Oilers before enjoying a strong campaign with Arizona in 2014-15. Gagner has scored 117 goals and set up 221 others in 564 career contests with the Oilers, Coyotes and Flyers.
