Struggles Continue For Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley Against Arizona Cardinals

Despite the impressive win by the Los Angeles Rams, the struggles continued for Todd Gurley in Week 4.

After taking home Rookie of the Year honors in 2015, expectations were high for Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley heading into his second year with the team. In fact, Gurley made a bold statement by claiming fantasy football owners should take him with the No. 1 overall pick.

Unfortunately, Gurley’s 2016 season hasn’t gotten off to the best start as he’s yet to break the 100-yard mark in any of the team’s first four games. In fact, the former Georgia standout seemed to take a step in the right direction after finding the end zone twice in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Gurley’s struggled unfortunately came back on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

While he did manage to catch an amazing 33-yard pass from Case Keenum, Gurley was a complete disappointment in the ground game after finishing with just 33 rushing yards on 19 carries. When doing the math, that turns out to be a whopping 1.7 yards per carry, which is simply just frustrating to see from a running back with the talent level of Gurley.

So what’s been the issue for Gurley over the first four games of the 2016 season? Is the running back failing to find positive yardage with opponents stacking the box more due to a weak Rams’ receiving corps?

Whatever is up with Gurley, the important factor is Los Angeles is still 3-1 on the season, and sitting on top of the NFC West. The Rams still have a long way to go, but Jeff Fisher has to feel good about the team winning three-straight games following their disastrous Week 1 showdown against the San Francisco 49ers.

If Los Angeles can find this much success with Gurley struggling as much as he has, just imagine what type of success they could have on offense when the running back finally gets rolling. The Rams may be on top of the division at the moment, but everybody knows this team will need to see Gurley get going if the team is going to remain there throughout the regular season.
