Josh Norman believes there is a double standard in the NFL

Redskins CB Josh Norman received a fine from the NFL after his bow and arrow celebration against the Browns. And he called out the NFL for it.
Josh Norman got his first interception of the season two weeks ago against the Cleveland Browns and as he went to the sideline he hit the crowd with a bow and arrow celebration. This is the move that cost him $10,000. And understandably, Norman wasn’t happy.
“Hey! They took my darned bow and arrow away from me!” Norman said via FOX Sports. “And a couple guys have been doing it for years! And, now all of a sudden I do it, can’t do it no more. I’m trying to understand that one, still.”
The baffling part about that penalty is, aside from the fact that everyone in sports does it, is that Norman did not even direct it at anyone on the Browns. He walked over to the sideline and shot the imaginary bow and arrow towards the crowd to pump them up.
This is not the first instance of the NFL trying to cut out celebrations. They have come a long way from the Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson days. Now, NFL stands for “No Fun League.” But what Norman may have had right is that there is a double standard when it comes to fines in the NFL.
Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown draws fines every week for twerking celebrations in the end zone after touchdowns. His total is up over $30,000 and this has him and head coach Mike Tomlin criticizing the NFL and their rules. And rightfully so. Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins scored a touchdown last week and put the ball on the ground and walked away like a robot. He later admitted that he did it to intentionally troll the NFL but he didn’t receive a fine.
A reason why is that Andrew Hawkins is not a household name like Antonio Brown or Josh Norman. The NFL is putting a target on the back of superstars to make an example. Celebrating is not the only issue either. The cornerbacks are barely allowed to play defense with all the ridiculous contact rules and quarterbacks are way too protected. This is causing the NFL to draw a lot of criticism.
While this may not cause ratings to go down, it is definitely something that needs to change. Scoring a touchdown is exciting for players and fans and they should be able to celebrate.
