Corey Fuller making progress in third year with Lions
The Detroit Lions are looking for a third pass-catcher to emerge behind wide receivers Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, and it looks like Corey Fuller could be their guy.
Fuller, a third-year pro, was selected in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft and spent his entire rookie season on the practice squad. He caught 14 passes and showed some progress last season (212 yards, one touchdown), but the well-rounded receiver might finally be ready to make a major leap in 2015.
"His speed," Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said, per Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com, pointing out one of Fuller's strengths. "His ability to stretch the field for us, one-on-one matchups, obviously he can give you some problems. He’s also a very good blocker.
"Does a great job in terms of the run game so he’s a pretty versatile guy and I think you can see him getting better and better just in terms of his route running and things of that nature and he shows up for us. I anticipate him battling and doing well."
Fuller, 25, has the size (6-2, 200 lbs.) and speed to make it in the NFL. His route tree and rapport with Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford have both improved this offseason, according to the team's official website.
