The Charlotte Hornets' very first player was Stephen Curry's dad

The Charlotte Hornets selected Stephen Curry's father, Dell, with their first pick in the 1988 expansion draft. He spent 10 seasons down in North Carolina, and sunk over 40 percent of nearly 2300 three-point attempts.

But according to At the Hive's Chris Barnewall, Curry is remembered more as an ambassador than a player:

"Of course, 10 of those years were spent with the Charlotte Hornets, and that's the jersey he'll always be remembered in. It's also how he's become more remembered as an ambassador than as a player. Despite his long career, Curry these days is known as the Hornets color commentator, and father of current MVP Steph Curry. Hornets fans would spit at this and say that his NBA career speaks for itself, but lets face it, how many young NBA fans these days remember Curry's playing days? Probably not as many as he deserves, but it's hard for role players to be remembered away from the cities they played."

While his son is the reigning NBA MVP, the only award Curry ever won was Sixth Man of the Year, in 1994, averaging an efficient 16.3 points per game.

In 1999, he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks, then finished his career on a three-year stint with the Toronto Raptors. But Curry's best days were in Charlotte. Hopefully, for the Hornets' sake, Dell's son decides to carry the torch when he becomes a free agent in 2017.
