Pelicans claim guard Ish Smith off waivers

The Pelicans will be dealing with injury issues to start the season, which means that players who aren't exactly household names will be getting plenty of minutes over the first month of the team's games.

Go ahead and add Ish Smith to that list, after he was claimed off of waivers by the Pelicans on Monday.

Tyreke Evans is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing knee surgery on his right knee, and Norris Cole could be out the first month of the season with a high ankle sprain.

Smith has bounced around quite a bit, and has played for eight teams in total over five NBA seasons. He averaged a career-best 12 points and 6.1 assists in 27.1 minutes per contest for the Sixers last season.
