Carter-Williams, who has missed the last four games, will have season-ending surgery on a torn labrum in his left hip on Thursday. The 24-year-old 2014 NBA Rookie of the Year was acquired by Milwaukee from Philadelphia at the trade deadline last season and has posted career-low averages in points (11.5) and assists (5.2) this season.
Carter-Williams will need about three months to recover from the surgery, according to the team. He started only 37 of the 54 games he played in this season as coach Jason Kidd struggled to find the right combination on a team that was expected to take the next step after making the playoffs in 2015 but has fallen flat with a 26-37 record.
