Tony Stewart undecided on Michigan Sprint Cup race, other racing plans on hold
Three-time champion Tony Stewart is included in the preliminary entry list for this Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway, but according to the team Stewart has not yet decided to race.
Stewart sat out Sunday's Cheez-It 355 at The Glen after being involved in a sprint car incident at Canandaigua Motorsports Park that claimed the life of 20-year-old Kevin Ward Jr.
"The decision to compete in this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Michigan will be Tony's, and he will have as much time as he needs to make that decision," Stewart-Haas Racing spokesman Mike Arning said in a email.
"It is still an emotional time for all involved, Tony included. He is grieving, and grief doesn't have a timetable."
While the decision to compete in this weekend's Sprint Cup race is still up in the air, Arning confirmed Stewart's "extra-curricular racing plans" for the weekend have been cancelled, and "won't resume until further notice."
NASCAR Nationwide Series regular Regan Smith piloted the No. 14 SHR Chevrolet in Sunday's race at Watkins Glen International, finishing 37th after a late-race crash.
