Los Angeles forward Mike Magee played the final 47 minutes in goal and the Galaxy survived the loss of their two goalkeepers to tie the San Jose Earthquakes 0-0 on Saturday.
Magee, a nine-year veteran making his 185th MLS appearances, took over in goal after backup goalkeeper Josh Saunders was ejected. Starter Donovan Ricketts left earlier because of an arm injury.
Magee made a couple critical stops and broke up other San Jose attacks in the penalty box to help the league-leading Galaxy (9-2-8) extend their unbeaten streak to 10 matches,
The Earthquakes (5-5-5) were unable to generate many chances until a final frantic 10 minutes. They failed to capitalize on a number of chances in both halves before a franchise-record crowd of 10,872.
Ricketts, returning from a three-match absence while playing in the Gold Cup with the Jamaican national team, was knocked out in the 24th minute after a crunching collision with countryman Khari Stephenson on a 50-50 ball in the Los Angeles penalty area. Ricketts spent 3 minutes on the field before getting up and heading directly to the locker room. A team spokesman said Ricketts had a left forearm injury.
Saunders was banished in the 43rd minute, forcing the Galaxy to play a man down the rest of the game, when he swung a deliberate retaliatory elbow to the face of San Jose forward Steven Lenhart. Lenhart received a yellow card for instigating the play by heading the ball out of Saunders' arms.
