Phillies' pitcher Chad Billingsley 'progressing really well' in rehab

Published Jun. 4, 2015 3:43 a.m. ET

Philadelphia Phillies starter Chad Billingsley is adamant to return to the mound after suffering an injury only a month into taking his first starts in two years, and manager Ryne Sandberg assures everything is going smoothly so far in his rehab.

Billingsley, who suffered a lat injury that has kept him out of commission since May 15, is currently on a throwing program that will gradually increase his arm strength.

"He's on a throwing program," Sandberg said. "He threw from 75 feet yesterday and he'll continue to throw. [He's] playing catch basically. We'll lengthen that out day to day and it looks like right now that he'll do an actual side [session] on Tuesday on the road trip.

"He's building toward that. He's progressing really well and we're taking it on the slow side of things. Building up to the side on Tuesday."

Billingsley is 0-2 with a 6.75 earned run average in three starts for the Phillies this season.
