#Braves and #Padres have completed the Olivera-for-Kemp deal, pending physicals. Exactly 1 yr after Braves traded for Olivera from Dodgers.

San Diego also announced the club has designated Olivera for assignment.
The 31-year-old Kemp is hitting .262 with 23 home runs and 69 RBI in his second season for San Diego. He still has $18 million left on the two remaining years of his contract, as well as $3.5 million per year owed by the Dodgers, with whom Kemp spent his first nine seasons. He's a two-time All-Star.
Kemp owed $18M from ’17 to ’19, with #Dodgers paying him additional $3.5M per. Olivera owed $27.5M from ’17 to ’20. Likely more to this.

Olivera, also 31, is a Cuban defector who signed a six-year, $62.5 million contract with the Dodgers but never played a game for them. He was traded to the Braves exactly one year ago in a three-team trade. In April, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and battery and was suspended 82 games without pay for violating the MLB's domestic violence policy. He's played only 30 games for the Braves, hitting .245.
Trying to dump Olivera, get anything back for him in process. Would add RH power if nothing else. That's something. https://t.co/ekjF3hhPyi

#Padres expected to DFA Olivera, as others have reported. Mere conviction would not allow SD to void deal. He would need to go to prison.

Sources: #Padres can escape $28.5M obligation to Olivera only if he goes to prison for domestic-violence charge. Case still pending.

Olivera is eligible to play again on Aug. 1.
