Padres catcher Derek Norris once played football game with a broken leg
Catchers are usually tough. They have to be to crouch for hours behind home plate catching 90 mph fastballs, while being at the mercy of foul tips. Padres catcher Derek Norris prides himself on his toughness. Norris spoke about to U-T San Diego about how he would like for people to view him:
"In a perfect world, I'd want for people to say 'he always played hard, he was always there for the team, he always picked people up’…I’d want them to say 'he had some ability, but he overachieved because of how hard he played’."
Norris has certainly lived up to this image outside of the baseball diamond. The U-T notes that Norris pulled a Jack Youngblood once -- playing a football game with a broken leg.
No wonder the Padres catcher can call himself “Norrisaurus Rex” without anybody laughing.
