Jennings pegs Marlins' Hechavarria as 'best shortstop in baseball'

Miami Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria didn't make the All-Star reserves list, but the Marlins are still trying to find a way to get him to this year's All-Star Game.

"In my opinion, he's the best shortstop in baseball," manager Dan Jennings said. "Every night, people that watch us see something he does, and you just go, 'Wow!' He is definitely All-Star-worthy."

Hechavarria is not listed on the Final Vote ballot that fans will vote on to select another player from each league to join the All-Star roster, but the Marlins are hoping that he'll be considered as a replacement candidate if a player drops out of the game for whatever reason.

In addition to routinely making spectacular plays at shortstop, Hechavarria has improved substantially at the plate this season after mixed success in his early major-league career.

"All of a sudden, as he grew as a player, he developed into Omar Vizquel," Jennings said. "[Vizquel] was a perennial All-Star every year."
