Ex-teammate Reyes can see World Series on horizon for streaking Mets
The surging New York Mets left quite an impression on the Colorado Rockies during a dominating four-game sweep.
From Nolan Arenado marveling that New York's vaunted pitching staff features "all No. 1s" to Carlos Gonzalez lauding Jacob deGrom as the "best pitcher in the game," the compliments flowed freely after the Rockies were outscored 23-5 by the National League East-leading Mets.
Count former Mets shortstop Jose Reyes among the believers. Reyes, a four-time All-Star who played his first nine seasons with New York, told NJ.com the sky is the limit for the Mets - as in possessing the ingredients necessary to win a World Series title.
"No question, they can," said Reyes, who was dealt to Colorado as part of the trade-deadline deal that sent Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays. "With the way they're pitching? You see the pitching staff they have, they're unbelievable. They're very good, man. They're very good.
"If they can find away to score three or four (runs) a game, they'll be very dangerous."
The obliteration of the Rockies gave the Mets 11 wins in their last 13 games and a 4 1/2-game edge over the Washington Nationals in the NL East. That matches the largest division lead of the season for New York, which is a staggering 42-18 at home.
"This is the first time I've seen Citi Field like this," Reyes said. "I've seen that atmosphere in Shea Stadium, but not here. That's good to see."
