The Los Angeles Angels have hired Josh Hamilton's former accountability partner to be the hitting coach for their top minor-league affiliate.

Johnny Narron was hired by the Angels on Wednesday to work for their Triple-A club in Salt Lake City.

Narron was the Milwaukee Brewers' hitting coach for the past three seasons. Before that, Narron spent five years at the side of Hamilton, who overcame drug and alcohol addiction to become the 2010 AL MVP.

Narron worked with Hamilton in Cincinnati and Texas, watching both the slugger's swing and his sobriety.

Hamilton has been largely unimpressive in the first two seasons of his five-year, $125 million deal with the Angels.

Dave Anderson was recently hired to be the Salt Lake Bees' manager next year.
