Will Fournette share the wealth versus Eastern Michigan?
Poor, poor Eastern Michigan.
The Eagles are dead-last in rushing yards allowed, giving up an average of 373.3 yards per game. Opponents also rush with a 6.73 yards-per-carry average. LSU is No. 7 nationally in rushing yards per game, with an average of 315.0 yards. This statistical output was achieved versus two SEC teams and an ACC opponent.
In other words, EMU could be in for a long day against this vaunted rushing attack led by Leonard Fournette.
On paper, LSU should have no problems in this contest. If Fournette were to play the duration of the upcoming game, there's a high probability he could break his career-high total of 244 rushing yards (set last weekend versus Syracuse).
Will this scenario come to fruition?
LSU doesn't want Fournette to pick up any injury in a game in which it should handle quite easily. With a tough SEC slate upcoming, head coach Les Miles could opt to rest his star for the majority of the time. If this were to happen, valuable playing time would be given to the young trio of Derrius Guice, Darrel Williams and Nicholas Brossette.
With the violent nature of the sport, injuries are inevitable. LSU relies heavily upon Fournette in the run game. There's a chance he could theoretically suffer an injury. It would make sense to at least get the reserve backs some work in what might be construed as a glorified scrimmage. One never knows when an injury could pop up. A stable of two freshmen and a sophomore could eventually be forced into considerable action.
