Virginia Tech FB Sam Rogers takes notes from Kobe Bryant

After breaking his elbow in a 33-17 victory over Cincinnati in the Military Bowl, Virginia Tech fullback Sam Rogers hasn't been able to participate this spring.

However, that doesn't mean he's not actively trying to improve.

Running backs coach Shane Beamer wants Rogers to become a leader, according to Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times, so Beamer suggested a recent TV documentary on NBA star Kobe Bryant for Rogers to watch.

The fullback took his coach's suggestion very seriously.

"I mentioned that to him and he went to his computer and watched it and came back with notes from it," Beamer told Bitter. "Part of the gist of that is being a leader sometimes is uncomfortable. Leading people where they want to go, it’s not always easy, and whether it’s conditioning with the strength coaches, for the injured guys, or trying to lead the football team, that’s part of it and it’s been a good learning experience for him."

Until Rogers is a full go for contact, he'll continue to do the little things that help his team.
