Tennessee has 'moved on' from Williams

Published Jun. 3, 2015 5:12 p.m. ET

According to the Associated Press, Tennessee has parted ways with cornerback Michael Williams, who was indicted this spring on charges of aggravated rape.

A Tennessee athletic department spokesperson was asked by the Associated Press if there were any possibility of Williams returning to the team after being removed from the roster in spring, and the spokesman reportedly replied, "We've moved on." The program has not officially announced that he has been dismissed.

Williams, who would have been a junior this season, started five games last year.

Along with former Tennessee linebacker A.J. Johnson, Williams was suspended in November after being accused by a female student of rape. The accusations came after a party at Johnson's residence, and both players were named by police as suspects before being indicted in February. The two are currently free on bond.
