Syracuse receiver denied medical redshirt

Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone says fifth-year senior receiver Aaron Weaver has not received a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA.

Weaver, a transfer from Hofstra, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in practice last week and is out for the season. He caught six passes for 88 yards and one touchdown in Syracuse's first two games.

Weaver played three seasons at Hofstra but did not play as a freshman. Hofstra was unable to provide Syracuse with documentation of an injury that might have prevented him from playing his first year. Such documentation is needed for the NCAA to consider a medical hardship waiver.

Weaver transferred to Syracuse when Hofstra eliminated its football program after the 2009 season.
