Syracuse Football: Halftime report for Cuse vs Demon Deacons
The Syracuse football team is down five at the half after blowing a huge opportunity. Wake Forest leads 14-9 after the first 30 minutes of play.
The game started out surprisingly for the Syracuse football team. Their biggest weaknesses have been special teams and defense. But you wouldn’t have known that in the first quarter for the Orange.
After a poor snap on fourth down, the Orange were able to force the safety to put points on the board. While on the defensive side, the Orange forced another turnover by stripping the ball on fourth and one.
While on the positive they prevented the Demon Deacons from scoring points. But on the negative the Orange offense was unable to turn the turnover into points.
Every week there seems to be something that frustrates the Syracuse football faithful. This week we witnessed another huge play mitigated by poor execution in crunch time.
Last week the captain of the Orange defense, Zaire Franklin, intercepted a poorly thrown Deshone Kizer pass. Which put SU in prime field position to cut the deficit to three at worst.
While Cole Murphy didn’t fall through and he shanked the field goal. This week we have a very similar situation, but the interception came on the other side of the field.
After some questionable play calls in the first half, it seemed Dontae Strickland bailed the Orange offense out with a 49 yard burst. Unfortunately on the very next play star quarterback, Eric Dungey, tossed a terrible interception in the red zone to put a bow on this first half.
Hurricane Matthew has played a factor with its wind and pounding rain. But not quite to the level we had anticipated. The second half is still very much up for grabs for the Orange.
The issue is that we keep seeing the same mistakes week after week. Hopefully that can change in the second half.
