Stephen F. Austin holds off D-II West Alabama 30-24

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) Storm Ruiz kicked three field goals to give Stephen F. Austin enough cushion to hold off Division II West Alabama 30-24 on Saturday night.

Ruiz hit field goals of 44 and 32 yards in the first half and added a 30-yarder with 9:36 left in the third.

The Lumberjacks (1-1) were ahead 30-17 going into the fourth quarter. West Alabama closed to within six after Tray Fletcher hauled in a pass from Harry Satterwhite with 6:21 remaining.

The Tigers got the ball back with 1:29 left. Satterwhite drove the Tigers to SFA's 18 but ran out of time.

Loren Easly led SFA with 89 yards rushing and a touchdown. Zach Conque threw for 166 yards and ran for one score.

Trae Hunt added a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown to give SFA a 30-17 lead in the third quarter.
