South Carolina gains commit from lineman Will Putnam
The South Carolina Gamecocks gained their sixth commitment of their 2016 recruiting class with the news of Will Putnam pledging to the Gamecocks Tuesday over Virginia Tech.
After announcing his decision, Putnam spoke to 247 Sports regarding what sold him on the Gamecocks, which turned out to be more about academics than football.
“I wanted to go into business in college. I checked it out with the academic advisors yesterday,” Putnam said. “The head academic advisor was a former student-athlete, so she got where I was coming from. It kind of clicked. We talked about the business program at South Carolina and they have the No. 1 international business program. It will help me help me in the future. You don’t walk into the world blind. They set you up for the future.”
The weight training aspect of the Carolina football program also played a role in Putnam's decision.
“I really like what the strength and conditioning staff is doing over there. It’s one of two schools in the national with a full-time football nutritionist.”
Putnam is the first offensive lineman to commit to South Carolina in this recruiting cycle.
