Rhoads doesn't favor Big 12 championship game

Iowa State wasn't in contention for a spot in the inaugural College Football Playoff, but if it is a candidate for the playoff someday down the line, head coach Paul Rhoads apparently isn't worried about the lack of championship game affecting the Big 12 Cyclones.

Rhoads was asked on the Big 12 coaches teleconference earlier in the week if he was for or against a conference title game, which seemed a primary reason both TCU and Baylor were spurned a playoff spot in 2014.

"No, I would not," Rhoads replied. "The fact that we play everybody, the league has worked hard to put some tie-breaking formulas into place. It's tough enough to beat a team once. The fact you play everybody once, you've hopefully settled it on the field.

"I'm sure it'll be a piece of discussion for us at the conference meetings in May. What will be very telling is if there's more that comes out of the playoff committee's communication that, yeah, a championship game is important."
