Report: Nation's top prospect to visit LSU this week

Published Aug. 4, 2015 4:07 p.m. ET

The LSU Tigers currently have the top ranked recruiting class in the nation for 2016 and look to lock up that ranking with the addition of five-star defensive lineman prospect Rashan Gary, considered by many to be the top prospect for 2016.

Gary's mother, Jennifer Coney, recently spoke to 247Sports Tuesday and confirmed she and her son would visit the Baton Rouge campus this week.

"We are flying down there in the morning," Coney said. "Rashan told me he likes LSU. And if he wants to look at LSU, I will need to see it myself."

Once again, the recruiting efforts of Coach O appear to be paying off with another elite prospect.

"Coach Orgeron is his main recruiter and the one I've talked to," Coney said. "Rashan went down there for camp last month, and now we will go again so I can see things. We will be spending the night there, so we will be in town a couple days. I've seen some other schools with Rashan, but now we need to see LSU."

Gaining Gary's commitment would be quite the accomplish for LSU, as they typically don't have to leave the South to recruit the best players in the nation. If they can prove their reach extends all the way into New Jersey, they should have the No. 1 recruiting class all but signed sealed and delivered to the Bayou.
