Presbyterian holds off Monmouth 17-13
CLINTON, S.C. (AP) John Walker threw as 44-yard touchdown pass to Daryl Wilson to give Presbyterian the lead and the defense held off Monmouth's late drive for a 17-13 victory Thursday night.
Walker's pass to Wilson capped the scoring for Blue Hose (2-4, 1-1 Big South Conference) with 12:45 left in the fourth quarter, ending a seven-play, 67-yard drive.
The Blue Hose quickly forced a punt on Monmouth's next drive but allowed the Hawks (4-3, 0-2) to drive to the 8 in the final minute. The Hawks committed a false start penalty on fourth-and-4 which pushed them back to the 13 and Presbyterian's Kenneth Coleman broke up Kenji Behar's pass into the end zone, forcing a turnover on downs and securing the win.
Walker finished with 123 yards passing. Ben Cheek, who started at quarterback, had 135 yards passing and a TD pass.
Lavon Chaney led Monmouth with 154 yards rushing and two TDs.
