Portland State races past Humboldt State 43-6
Kieran McDonagh passed for a career-high 377 yards, fueling Portland State to a 43-6 pounding of Division-II Humboldt State.
It makes the second straight week that McDonagh has set a career high. He passed for 308 yards in a narrow loss to Cal, a performance that earned the sophomore Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The Vikings' (2-1) potent offense did not kick in until the second half, breaking open a tight 7-6 contest with three TDs and a safety in the third quarter alone. Portland State finished with 622 total yards. The Vikings lead the FCS in total offence, averaging over 612 yards, after their first two games.
Humboldt State (0-2) stayed close in the first half on Matt Bruder field goals of 32 and 28 yards less than a minute apart in the second quarter.
Portland State's Kasey Closs caught 10 passes for a career-best 205 yards.
