Cory McCaffrey ran for 222 yards and four touchdowns as Portland State held on for a 31-29 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday night.
Northern Arizona had a chance to win in the final 10 seconds, but Matt Myers' 41-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left. That allowed the Vikings (2-0, 1-0 Big Sky) to snap a four-game losing streak to the Lumberjacks (1-2, 0-1).
Despite the close score, Portland State never trailed in the game, thanks in big part to McCaffrey, who now has seven touchdowns for the season. But Northern Arizona made it interesting with a fourth-quarter comeback.
