Penn State Opens as Big Favorite at Rutgers


Penn State enters the new week as a big favorite for Saturday’s game at Rutgers.
Penn State pulled out a hard-fought victory Saturday on the road against Indiana. After trailing in the second half, the Nittany Lions used a 24-point fourth quarter to put away the Hoosiers. The win was the sixth straight for the Nittany Lions, who are now squarely in the conversation for a New Year’s Six bowl bid. Up this week is a road battle with the lowly Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Not surprisingly, the Nittany Lions are heavy favorites this week. Current odds in Vegas have Penn State favored by by more than 20 points.

Rutgers has just two wins this season and is in the middle of a seven-game losing streak. The Scarlet Knights are easily one of the worst teams in the Big Ten and just got beat 49-0 by Michigan State. Their offense ranks as the worst in the Big Ten.
The Nittany Lions have gotten hot at the right time and will look to keep it rolling this week. After a tough victory in Bloomington, a matchup with lowly Rutgers could be just what the doctor ordered.
Quarterback Trace McSorley struggled for much of the Indiana game, but finished with a career-high 332 yards and three total touchdowns. He’s a mobile quarterback who is able to extend plays when the protection breaks down.
Running back Saquon Barkly had a tough time getting started against the Hoosiers, but still finished with two touchdowns. He’s one of the best backs in the country and could be in for a big game against the Big Ten’s worst rush defense.
Penn State owns a 24-2 all-time record over Rutgers and hasn’t lost since 1988. The Nittany Lions last visited High Point Solutions Stadium in 2014 and squeaked out a 13-10 victory.
