Where did Penn State land in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings?

The newest version of the College Football Playoffs was released on Tuesday night. Penn State, ranked No. 8 last week, moved up a spot to No .7 this week after a 39-0 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Penn State came in ranked at No. 8 in both the AP Poll and the USA TODAY Coaches Poll this week. When Louisville was upset by Houston last Thursday, the door opened for the Nittany Lions to move up in the CFP rankings.

After getting blown out 49-10 at Michigan in September, the Nittany Lions have piled up seven straight wins. They are now just one victory away from a 10-win season and already have the best record since James Franklin took over in 2014.

A healthy defense and a high-powered offense have helped to key the win streak.

If there’s a question mark for Penn State heading into this week’s game, it’s the fact that the offensive line is sort of a patchwork unit right now. Andrew Nelson and Paris Palmer have both been lost for the year, and Brendan Mahon has missed the last two games.

Still, the Nittany Lions have been able to overcome adversity all season and are currently one of the hottest teams in the nation.

With one week left in the regular season, Penn State sits in a great position to win the Big Ten East division. Of course, Ohio State needs to beat Michigan, and the Nittany Lions need to beat Michigan State. If that happens, Penn State will be headed to Indianapolis next week.

The victor in the Big Ten Championship will have a legitimate shot at making it into the College Football Playoff.
