Penn State got some good recruiting news when an SEC commit flipped to the Nittany Lions.

With several top recruiting targets on campus this past weekend, it’s no surprise that Penn State got some good new on the recruiting front. The dominating win over Michigan State, coupled with a Big Ten East division crown, is sure to be a big boost for the Nittany Lions.

One of the visitors at the game was defensive tackle Fred Hansard. Previously committed to the University of Florida, the Hun School (NJ) star decided to join coach James Franklin and the Nittany Lions.

A four-star prospect according to 247Sports, Hansard is rated as the No. 11 defensive tackle in the class of 2017. He’s the fourth-best prospect in the state of New Jersey and ranked as the No. 198 overall recruit in the class.

Standing at six-foot-three and weighing over 300 pounds, Hansard already has a great build to play on the defensive line at the collegiate level. He had an impressive offer list that included the likes of Alabama, Michigan, Tennessee, Ohio State, and several others.

Hansard committed to Florida in August, but his two visits to Happy Valley (Iowa and Michigan State games) changed his mind.

The Nittany Lions now have 15 members in the 2017 recruiting class. Hansard is the first defensive tackle of the bunch.

Hansard’s commitment came a day after top 2018 tight end recruit Zack Kuntz announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions prior to the start of the game with Michigan State.
