Oregon demotes defensive coordinator Don Pellum

Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich announced on Monday that defensive coordinator Don Pellum has been demoted to linebackers coach.
"Don is a great man who has helped shape the culture and growth of Oregon Football in several different capacities for nearly 30 years," Helfrich said, via GoDucks.com. "He's committed, as we all are, to being part of the solution to improve the end results on the field."
Pellum has been Oregon's defensive coordinator for the past two seasons. The Ducks ranked No. 117 in total defense in 2015 and allowed 485.3 yards per game. In Pellum's first season as Oregon's defensive coordinator, the Ducks ranked No. 89 in total defense but ranked third in turnovers forced (34) and first in turnover margin.
Pellum just completed his 23rd season as an Oregon assistant.
Helfrich also announced that outside linebackers coaching Erik Chinander has accepted a position to become the defensive coordinator at another FBS school. Chinander will reportedly join former Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost at Central Florida.
"I want to thank Coach Chinander for his hard work these past two seasons," Helfrich said. "This is a natural progression for him as he's an outstanding young coach."
