Notre Dame: No-Brainer Naming DeShone Kizer Starting Quarterback

Notre Dame officially named DeShone Kizer as their starting quarterback going forward and it was a decision that should have been a no-brainer.
Notre Dame has rightfully decided to end all conversation of an ongoing quarterback battle in South Bend as DeShone Kizer will be the only guy taking snaps this weekend.
In a report by ESPN, Kizer talked about how coach Brian Kelly ensured him that he will be the guy on Saturday.
Rightfully so.
Kizer was the best quarterback on the field between him and Malik Zaire on Sunday night against Texas. The offense was humming with him at the helm. In fact, if they didn’t waste time swapping back and forth until they were down 31-14, they could have won that game.
They were so much better with Kizer as he threw for 215 yards and five touchdowns without throwing a pick. He brought the Irish all the way back to help force OT. The early rotating system cost them the game.
From the moment he took the field last season, it looked like Kizer had “it.” In his first game, after coming in for relief of an injured Zaire, he stuck a dagger in Virginia’s heart as he hit a last second touchdown pass to win the game. From that moment on, people started to take notice.
With NFL scouts and analysts praising Kizer’s potential at the next level, you have to start a guy with that much buzz surrounding him. He is a tremendous passer with great arm talent that gives the Irish the best chance to win by far. You don’t just sit or subject a big-time NFL prospect to a two quarterback system.
Just look at some of his praise.

That’s a guy you start. You don’t have to go far to find an example of switching QB’s off and on not working. Last season, Ohio State did it with Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett. It wasn’t until they fully chose just Barrett when the offense finally took off.
You need continuity and rhythm and you can get that if only one guy is fielding nearly all the snaps. If you want to bring Zaire in for a few run packages, go for it, but Kizer should be the guy dropping back and dropping dimes all over the field.
Notre Dame has to win out to have a chance at the playoff. They took the first (easy) step towards that with this decision. Kizer is legit and now the country will be able to see why we’ll see him on Sundays shortly.
