Notre Dame CB Watkins has surgery for broken left arm

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) Notre Dame cornerback Nick Watkins will miss the final two weeks of spring practice after undergoing surgery for a broken left arm.
The university said Sunday the 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back from DeSoto, Texas, underwent successful surgery Saturday night after being injured during practice earlier in the day. He is competing for a starting job.
Watkins played in 12 games last season, making his first start against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, with three tackles and a pass breakup. He played in 12 games last season, finishing with eight tackles. As a freshman in 2014, Watkins played primarily on special teams.
