It’s the 11th week of NCAA football and it’s amazing how fast the season is rolling. We look at the top five games to watch this weekend.
Last weekend saw Alabama survive in a tight and physical game against rival LSU. All of the top five or six teams won, so there were no major surprises at the top.
There are no what I would call must-see games this weekend, but there are some solid matchups. We have a couple in the ACC, there’s a couple in the SEC, and what might be a good game out west in the PAC-12.
Let’s take a look at our top five games to watch in NCAA football week 11.
Oct 10, 2015; Dallas, TX, USA; Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong celebrates winning the game against the Oklahoma Sooners during the Red River rivalry at Cotton Bowl Stadium. Texas won 24-17. Mandatory Credit: Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports
Who: West Virginia vs. Texas
When: 12:00 p.m.
Broadcast: FOX
Where: Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX
Texas head coach Charlie Strong has the Longhorn faithful not sure which way to go. One week they want him fired and the next week they pull out a big win.
This weekend could be the latter when Texas hosts ranked West Virginia. Texas is a -2 point favorite going into this game.
Sep 19, 2015; Baton Rouge, LA, USA; LSU Tigers running back Leonard Fournette (7) breaks away from Auburn Tigers cornerback Ed Paris (24) for a touchdown during the second quarter of a game at Tiger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
Who: LSU vs. Arkansas
When: 7:00 p.m.
Broadcast: ESPN
Where: Razorback Stadium, Fayetteville, AK
LSU is coming off the tough contested loss against rival Alabama. The LSU offense was shutout last week, but was humming before that since the firing of Les Miles.
Arkansas is coming off the upset win over Florida in their last outing. Can they keep that momentum going?
LSU is a -7 point favorite.
Sep 24, 2016; Blacksburg, VA, USA; Virginia Tech Hokies quarterback Jerod Evans (4) celebrates scoring a touchdown during the third quarter against the East Carolina Pirates at Lane Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports
Who: Georgia Tech vs. Virginia Tech
When: 3:30 p.m.
Broadcast: ESPNU
Where: Lane Stadium, Blacksburg, VA
This is a huge game in the ACC Coastal division. A loss by Virginia Tech opens the door for UNC to potentially win the ACC Coastal division if they can get back Duke Thursday night.
Georgia Tech just got dismantled against UNC last week and Virginia Tech survived a three-point win against Duke.
VT is a 14 point favorite.
Sep 10, 2016; Los Angeles, CA, USA; USC Trojans receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (9) celebrates after scoring a touchdown pass against the Utah State Aggies during a NCAA football game at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. USC defeated Utah State 45-7. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
Who: USC vs. Washington
When: 7:30 p.m.
Broadcast: FOX
Where: Husky Stadium, Seattle, WA
USC seems to finally have their act together. The one time top 10 ranked team is now back in the top 25 rankings and will take on No. 4 Washington.
USC dismantled Oregon last week and Washington molly-whopped California. A win by USC would prevent Washington from being in the four team playoff spot going forward.
Washington is a -8.5 betting favorite.
Oct 8, 2016; Miami Gardens, FL, USA; Florida State Seminoles tight end Mavin Saunders (88) celebrates during the second half against the Miami Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium. FSU won 20-19. Mandatory Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports
Who: Boston College vs. FSU
When: 7:00 p.m.
Broadcast: ESPN
Where: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, FL
Night games at Doak are always fun and provide an electric atmosphere. They are huge betting favorites against Boston College, and have been the past few years.
However, the ‘Noles have struggled to cover the spread in recent years. They covered it last year, but only because of a defensive TD by Jalen Ramsey.
‘Noles are -21 point betting favorites. Will this be the game where the offense finally gets off to a quick start?
