National Championship now or never for Dabo Swinney?
This years College Football Playoff is arguably the most important postseason in school history. The Tigers have experienced unprecedented success under Dabo Swinney, however, they have yet to win a National Championship. The Tigers came oh-so-close to winning one last season and they are on the doorstep again this year.
Clemson must take advantage of this opportunity this year. Getting to a National Championship is difficult in itself, winning one proves nearly impossible. Dabo Swinney and his staff do a great job of recruiting, but, losing a guy like Deshaun Watson hurts no matter how good you recruit. If Clemson doesn’t win the National Championship, who knows when they will get another shot.
The Tigers are no longer simply relevant, they are elite. Dabo Swinney has turned Clemson into a national power on a yearly basis, but, winning the National Championship is the ultimate goal. Should Clemson win the 2016 National Championship, it could alter the trajectory of the program from good to potential dynasty.

Winning the Championship would certainly pay dividends on the recruiting trail, which would in turn help Clemson compete for more National Championships down the road. Also, Dabo Swinney would cement his position as one of the best coaches in the history of Clemson football. Win the title now and the rest will take care of itself, lose and the pressure of getting back will hang over the program.
The last time Clemson won the National Title was in 1981, the Tigers have yet to win one since then, which shows just how elusive a National Championship can be. Clemson cannot afford to lose focus of this opportunity. With all of the success that the Tigers have had, who knows if Brent Venables will be with Clemson in three to four years. Who knows how Florida State, Miami, heck even Louisville will be down the road.
The time to win a National Championship is now, because who knows what tomorrow will bring.
