Michigan lands top prospect in Midwest
After picking up a handful of under-the-radar recruits via his satellite camp tour over the past 10 days or so, Jim Harbaugh went the more traditional route Wednesday.
Ben Bredeson, an offensive guard from Hartland (Wisc.) Arrowhead High and Scout.com's top-rated football prospect in the Midwest, announced his verbal commitment to Michigan via social media Wednesday after telling his future head coach the decision during a break on the final day of Michigan's camp in Ann Arbor.
Bredeson had numerous major offers from the Big Ten and beyond, but Scout reports his other finalist was Notre Dame.
He is the ninth player to commit to Michigan in June and the fifth in the past week, joining defensive back Antwaine Richardson, defensive end Rashad Weaver, tight end Sean McKeon and "athlete" Victor Viramontes.
Ranked No. 25 overall nationally, Bredeson is by far the highest-rated player to commit to Michigan for 2016 at this point. Next is No. 124 Erik Swenson, a four-star offensive tackle prospect from Illinois who committed more than a year before Harbaugh was hired as Michigan's head coach.
I've decided that next year I will be attending the University of Michigan! Excited for the future! #Fab25 #GoBlue 〽️ pic.twitter.com/c0iy7MKHLH
