In limited duty this season, Smith threw for 246 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.

A Miami transfer, Smith started the Tigers' opener vs. Mississippi State and the team's Conference USA opener the next week at East Carolina. Against ECU, Smith suffered a concussion and did not return to the starting lineup for the rest of the season.

Memphis ended the year 1-11 and 0-8 in C-USA action.
