Maxwell Football Club nominates pair of Fighting Irish for national awards

Notre Dame football has two players in line for national awards from the Maxwell Football Club this fall, one on each side of the ball.
Running back C.J. Prosise is one of 20 players to be named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the best player in the country every year.
A senior in his first season at running back after playing receiver last season, Prosise has run for 947 yards and 11 touchdowns this season for the Fighting Irish. He has also caught 23 passes for 262 yards and a touchdown.
Linebacker Jaylon Smith is a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which goes to the best defensive player in the country annually.
Smith leads Notre Dame with 66 tackles, including six for loss and a sack. He has broken up three passes and received two fumbles.
