Matt Fink ends recruiting frenzy, chooses USC

Published May. 6, 2015 3:05 p.m. ET

Four-star quarterback Matt Fink was relatively unknown heading into his junior season. In fact, not that many schools lined up to offer a scholarship to the Glendora (Calif.) High product after racking up 1,386 yards passing and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 725 yards and 10 touchdowns.

But the junior was on a mission: to make a splash in the recruiting world, and he did just that, according to Aram Tolegian at the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

"Fink, who does not play on a traveling seven-versus-seven team for exposure, received offers from Boise State and Washington toward the end of his junior season and set a goal to really make a splash among recruiters this offseason," Tolegian writes. "That's exactly what happened after Fink wowed recruiters in February when he took home offensive MVP honors at the Blue/Grey All-American Southern California Regional combine in Ventura."

The rest was history. Some of the top schools lined up, but the 6-foot-5 quarterback ultimately went with the school that showed him "the most love," and staying close to home was just as important, according to the Tribune.

It goes to show that, as cliche as it sounds, hard work pays off.
