Lovett scores record 7 TDs, Princeton drubs Cornell 56-7
ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) John Lovett set a school record with seven touchdowns - four passing, two rushing and one receiving - as Princeton beat Cornell for the fourth straight time on Saturday, 56-7.
Lovett accounted for five TDs in the final 20 minutes of the first half to give the Tigers (5-2, 3-1 Ivy) a 35-0 lead at the break.
Cornell (3-4, 1-3) got on the board with a 15-yard TD pass from Dalton Banks to Ben Rogers to make it 35-7, but Lovett answered two plays later with a 95-yard scoring pass to Isaiah Barnes. Lovett capped his superlative day with a 6-yard TD pass - his fourth - with 31 seconds left in the third quarter.
Princeton tied a school record with 645 yards, its most since 1991. The win gives the Princeton Class of 2016 an undefeated record against Cornell, a feat previously accomplished only twice (1966, 1977) in the last 100 years.
Lovett finished 10 of 11 passing for 194 yards. He rushed for 47 yards on six carries and totaled 19 yards on two catches.
