It’s been a crazy first half for the Louisville football team facing Florida State. Here are the first half grades for the Cardinals who are up 35-10 at the half.

The Cardinals got off to a fantastic start in this game scoring the game’s first 14 points. Lamar Jackson has been a little shaky so far in this game passing, but what do you expect from a sophomore quarterback. He has had all the attention on his this last week, he has done a solid job so far for the Louisville football team.

It’s going to be important for the Cardinals to continue keeping their foot on the gas in this one. Florida State has always been one of those teams who are never out of the game until the clock hits zero.  Don’t forget, the Seminoles and Jameis Winston erased a 21-0 hole in Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium just a few years ago.

There have been points left on the field early in this one as well. Both teams traded missed field goals in the first couple of quarters and both teams also had promising touchdowns drives stopped by great pass rushing from the other team.

Louisville has done a better job this week of tackling and have better fundamentals. It’s been impressive to see how they have handled the spotlight of having College Gameday in town so far in this contest. They need to continue playing their best football of the season if they want to beat this tough Seminoles Football team.

Here are our grades from the first half:

Sep 17, 2016; Louisville, KY, USA; Louisville Cardinals running back Brandon Radcliff (23) avoids the tackle of Florida State Seminoles defensive back Marcus Lewis (24) as he runs the ball during the first quarter at Papa John

Louisville Offense: A-

The Cardinals got off to a great start on offense through the first quarter. Lamar Jackson scored the game’s first two touchdowns on the ground putting the Louisville football team up 14-0. They did a great job on the ground in the first half overall. The combination of Jackson and Radcliff is going to be tough for any team to stop this season.

Jackson was a little shaky in the first half passing the football. There were some wide open receiver that he missed, but it wasn’t anything that the Cardinals weren’t able to overcome. At the same time, his receivers have been playing a lot better than they did last week up in Syracuse. They have cleaned up their drops and are blocking well.

Stats:

The number one thing that is most impressive about the Louisville offense in the first half is that they did not turn the football over. They cannot give the Seminoles life in a game where Louisville is in complete control. It seems as though they have learned from their mistakes against Florida State over the past two seasons and are putting themselves in a great position to come out with the victory.

Sep 17, 2016; Louisville, KY, USA; Florida State Seminoles running back Dalvin Cook (4) runs the ball against the Louisville Cardinals during the first quarter at Papa John

    Louisville Defense: B+

Louisville’s defense has been one of the main reasons why we think that Louisville has an opportunity to make it to the big dance this season. While they don’t get too much attention, these guys have been playing great so far in this first half. Dalvin Cook has tore them up the last two seasons, but they have done a better job of tackling today.

    STATS:

James Hearns and Devonte Fields have gotten pressure on Deondre Francois early in this game and you can tell it might be starting to take it’s toll. Francois did have a great touchdown pass on third and long that was disappointing, but overall they have done a great job getting in his face and disrupting his throws.

Louisville was able to capitalize on a huge fumble by Dalvin Cook and Deondre Francois and gave their offense a great opportunity to score more points in a 21-10 game. Louisville needs to continue to find ways to create turnovers in this game. If they can do that, the Cardinals could be moving way up in the polls at the end of the weekend.
