Louisville Football: Jackson Joins Elite Company With Maxwell Award

Louisville football’s Lamar Jackson won the Maxwell Award for the best collegiate player and he joined some amazing company.

There is no doubt about it. Louisville football‘s quarterback Lamar Jackson is racking up National awards like it’s nothing. The Heisman Trophy ceremony isn’t even until Saturday night, but that hasn’t stopped him from winning other major awards.

This is the official announcement from the Maxwell Football Club:

“Maxwell Football Club President Ron Jaworski announced today that Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson has been selected as the winner of the 80th Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year.”

This is such an honor for Lamar Jackson. There have been some amazing football players that have won this award and have gone on to have terrific careers in the National Football League.

Those eleven names are just a few of the great football players that have had the honor of receiving this award. Take another look at this list and let it sink in that a Louisville quarterback in among them.

This list is just amazing. If Lamar Jackson can mature into just a small portion of Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, and Andrew Luck, then he is going to have one heck of a football career.

I’m not saying that he is going to play like any of these Hall-of-Fame worthy quarterbacks, but he could develop into someone who can have the same type of success.

Regardless, winning the 2016 Maxwell Award is an incredible honor for Louisville’s sophomore quarterback.
