Longhorns still waiting on Cumbie to answer Air Raid siren

The waiting game is on at Texas.

The Longhorns are hopeful of prying Sonny Cumbie away from Big 12 rival TCU and bringing a version of the Air Raid to Austin.

According to multiple reports, Texas coach Charlie Strong and first-year tight ends coach Jeff Traylor met with Cumbie in Fort Worth on Sunday and then Cumbie was in Austin on Monday to meet with Strong and tour the Texas facilities.

Cumbie, 34, has been offered the position of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He has had outrageous success in two seasons at TCU as co-offenensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach along with co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, Cumbie earns around $700,000 at TCU, a sizable contract for a co-offensive coordinator, and he could reap around $1 million per season at Texas.

Cumbie could be ready to leave TCU and run his own offense. Meacham was a finalist for the head coaching job at North Texas, but removed himself from consideration at the last minute. His departure likely would have left TCU's offense in Cumbie's hands.

Now Texas waits for Cumbie to decide if he wants to help reinvigorate, if not re-invent, a wheezing Longhorns offense.
