Kentucky has named former Miami standout wide receiver Lamar Thomas the Wildcats’ new wide receivers coach. UK coach Mark Stoops announced the hire Tuesday, according to the school.

A source had told FOX Sports that Kentucky was making the hire.

Stoops hired Thomas away from archrival Louisville just hours before Signing Day.

The 45-year-old Thomas had spent the past two seasons at Louisville and the 2013 season as the receivers coach at Western Kentucky all under head coach Bobby Petrino.

Thomas played on two national title teams at Miami in 1989 and 1991 when new UK offensive coordinator Eddie Gran was an assistant on the ’Canes staff.
