Johnson promotes Mathew Jordan to backup QB
On Monday Georgia Tech backup quarterback Tim Byerly hurt his knee during practice and by Wednesday Yellow Jackets coach Paul Johnson ruled the QB out for this Saturday’s home game against Tulane.
When Byerly will return still remains unclear.
“We’ll see,” Johnson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’ve just got to see. Well take it day by day and see how it goes.”
What is clear is that the No. 15 Yellow Jackets (1-0) will move redshirt freshman quarterback Mathew Johnson up to the No. 2 spot on the depth chart behind star quarterback Justin Thomas.
Johnson was moved to A-back at the start of fall camp, but will now go back to playing quarterback.
