Irish places two on preseason all-American team

Sporting News released its preseason all-American team on Monday and Notre Dame offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley and linebacker Jaylon Smith were named to the first team.

Sporting News had high praise for the 6’5”, 315-pound Stanley, who was named Notre Dame’s offensive lineman of the year in 2014.

“The upside with Stanley is huge,” Sporting News said. “He started every game at right tackle in 2013 and was named the Irish’s top offensive lineman last season as the starting left tackle. He’s as athletic as they came at his position.”

Smith is a 6’2” 235-pound junior who tallied 112 tackles in 13 games last season for the Fighting Irish and was named to the AP All-American second-team.
