Horns play-caller shows Rose one mistake does not lose a game
Say this for the Texas Longhorns, they take care of their own during tough times.
Kick Nick Rose could have been kicked to the curb by his Longhorns coaches and teammates after he missed a game-tying extra-point attempt with about a minute left after Texas scored 20 unanswered points against Cal.
The missed kick robbed Texas of the opportunity to potentially win a game it had trailed 45-24. But the shanked kick wobbled right and the Horns lost, 45-44, and fell to 1-2.
That night, Longhorns coach Charlie Strong reportedly stayed in the locker room until 1 a.m. consoling the kicker.
And this week, new Texas play-caller Jay Norvell wanted to show Rose first-hand that one play doesn't lose a game, that mistakes throughout the game all lead to the end result.
Norvell invited Rose to sit in on the offense's meeting on Sunday just so he could hear the litany of mistakes that unit made. Maybe he should have been invited to the defense's meetings, too.
