Gould out as UC Davis football coach
(STATS) - After a promising start in 2013, UC Davis football coach Ron Gould never continued the momentum, so it wasn't surprising Monday when the university announced he will not return next season.
Gould was 12-33 in four seasons. This year, the Aggies finished 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the Big Sky Conference, beating rival Sacramento State 48-30 in the Causeway Classic to close the season on Saturday.
"Although we were not able to reach our goals on the field, I couldn't be more proud of all that we accomplished during my time at UC Davis," Gould said. "I want to thank my outstanding staff and their families for their commitment to mentoring and developing the young men in our program. We have made tremendous progress and laid the foundation for a very bright future for UC Davis football."
Gould arrived at UC Davis after 16 seasons as an assistant coach at Cal. In his first season with the Aggies in 2013, they finished 5-7 and 5-3 in the Big Sky, tying for fourth place. But they were 7-26 over his final three seasons.
Athletic director Kevin Blue said UC Davis will conduct a national search for a new coach.
