FSU football moved to 2-0 on Saturday with the win over Charleston Southern. We look at the top five players from the game.

We talked about the most important things for FSU football going into the Charleston Southern game. Of course the most important thing is to win, but the other thing was to come out of the game without any major injuries.

The latter didn’t happen, at least that’s how it may appear on the surface with Derwin James. We’ll provide updates on that as soon as the MRI results come in.

However, there were several players that played well on Saturday.

We take a look at the top five players for FSU football.

Brian Burns

The true freshman defensive end had a great fall camp and made the most of his opportunities on Saturday.

Burns came in with the second unit on defense and instantly created havoc in the backfield. He had two sacks in the game for 19 sack yards.

It’s important to create depth with young players, but even more so for the defensive end position for FSU. The position lacks proven depth, and Burns could provide that as the season progresses.

Not only that, he’ll look to replace senior DeMarcus Walker in the starting lineup next season along with Josh Sweat.

Burns has an incredible burst off the line, but will need to played disciplined against the run as teams will look to run at him.

Davin Cook

I don’t know what it is but Dalvin Cook still doesn’t quite seem like Dalvin Cook. It’s almost like the weight he added has decreased his ability to accelerate or make defenders miss in the open field.

Maybe he’s nicked up from the Ole Miss game?

However, he did manage to break a couple of tackles and score on a 37 yard scamper before exiting the game. He had 83 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns and one reception for nine yards.

FSU will need him to show up on Saturday against Louisville, as he owned them in the second half the game last season.

Deondre Francois

Deondre Francois picked up from where he left off against Ole Miss on Saturday. He threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns.

However, he did throw his first interception of the season when a defender dropped into coverage without Francois seeing him.

Francois didn’t run the ball much as FSU chose to treat the game like a working scrimmage for the most part.

They know he can run, but want to get him as many reps as possible in looking at coverages in the secondary.

Travis Rudolph

It looks as though Travis Rudolph is on his way to becoming the No. 1 receiver the ‘Noles need him to be in 2016.

He and Francois seem to have great chemistry, and will need it again when they visit Louisville on Saturday.

Rudolph had seven receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns against Charleston Southern. He is almost halfway to his season total from last year through two games in 2016.

He already has 13 receptions for 179 yards and three touchdowns through two games.

Sep 10, 2016; Tallahassee, FL, USA; Florida State Seminoles wide receiver Jesus Wilson (3) returns a punt for a first half touchdown against Charleston Southern at Doak Campbell Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Glenn Beil-USA TODAY Sports

Jesus Wilson

As much love as Travis Rudolph is receiving, Jesus Wilson is almost matching him stat for stat. Wilson had four receptions for 53 yards against Charleston Southern.

He also returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown. It was the first punt return for a touchdown for FSU football since 2012.

Wilson has 13 receptions for 178 yards on the season. The only thing separating him and Rudolph is Wilson has zero touchdowns on the season.

Wilson could be a huge factor next week at Louisville if the Cardinals decide to give extra attention to Travis Rudolph.
